‘Gotham’ Is Not a Game, It’s a Reality Show
The upcoming season of Gotham is the most exciting thing I’ve ever done, says series creator and actor Alan Tudyk.
“I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am,” says Tudyk, whose own Gotham is based on the comic book of the same name.
“This is a show I really wanted to make.
I had a big plan, but then I just didn’t have the guts to go and do it.
I felt like I was in a very strange place.””
I think the thing that I think has been a real challenge to me is the fact that I’m not a game guy.
I’m a guy who can make a really good TV show, and that’s where I’m at right now.
I really do enjoy doing that.”
So what makes Gotham a TV show at all?
“We’re really trying to build up Gotham to be a show about the real world, rather than the fictional world,” Tudyk explains.
“We wanted to take the story and the characters and make them into something that was about the world in which they live.
I think we’re really taking a story that we have, that we’ve made, and trying to give it a real world feel to it.
And that is really exciting for me.”
The first season of the show is set in 2028, and the season finale will take place in 2018.
But Tudyk isn’t taking the show’s current timeline as the norm for his next projects.
“I don’t think of myself as a showrunner,” he says.
“As a producer, I’m just trying to put together episodes that I like and I feel are right for the network.”
And as Gotham moves forward, Tudyk is excited to be able to make the Gotham that he imagined when he started the show.
“My vision of Gotham has always been to be as big as Gotham is, and I think that the show has always felt like it could be bigger than the show, which is great,” he tells Wired.
“But we can make it bigger.
We can make Gotham bigger.
I mean, I love the show now, and it’s amazing.”
